Career Guidance
Career Guidance
School counselors provide students with counseling that facilitates academic, career and social/emotional development, helping students develop plans for choosing a career.
Employers frequently express frustration that new hires often lack well-developed communication skills, problem-solving skills, motivation, persuasion and critical-thinking skills that define soft skills.
The CTE counselor strives to strengthen educational relevance, improve students’ school and career preparation planning and increase student readiness for workplace demands to foster greater career success.
Career and Technical Guidance provides opportunities and assistance for students enrolled in Career and Technical courses to receive career advising. These services include assisting individuals in making and implementing informed educational choices. Students are assisted in the selection of high school courses, the development of career tracks, and the transition from high school to employment or postsecondary education by helping students consider all of their options following high school completion, including directly entering the world of work.
The CTE counselor can assist students with the following:
- Aptitude and interest assessments
- CTE completer status
- CTE credentialing certification
- Scholarship assistance
- Maximized career opportunities
- CTE pathway selection and understanding
- Employability skills development and certification
