I started teaching Agricultural Education for Florence City Schools in 2005. I hold a Bachelors degree in Agriscience Education from Alabama A&M University, a Masters degree in Agriscience Education from Auburn University and an Educational Specialist degree in Agriscience Education from Auburn University. What I enjoy most about teaching agricultural education, is having the ability to pass on the knowledge and skills that I have gained throughout my experiences in agriculture to the students I teach.
Dr. Shelby Atwood has been teaching agricultural education at Florence Middle School since 2019. A 2016 graduate of Florence High School, she completed six years of agricultural education courses before earning her bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education from Auburn University.
Dr. Atwood went on to earn a Master’s degree in Agricultural Education and Communications from University of Florida, an Ed.S. in Agricultural Education from Murray State University, and an Ed.D. in P–20 and Community Leadership with a specialization in Agricultural Education in 2025. She is passionate about seeing students apply the skills they learn in the classroom to real-world experiences beyond school.
Every student that is enrolled in an agricultural education course is an FFA member. FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership.
FFA is a dynamic youth organization that changes lives and prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
FFA develops members’ potential and helps them discover their talent through hands-on experiences, which give members the tools to achieve real-world success.
Members are future chemists, veterinarians, government officials, entrepreneurs, bankers, international business leaders, teachers, and premier professionals in many career fields.
FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of agricultural education.
The official name of the organization is the National FFA Organization. The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. These letters are a part of our history and our heritage that will never change.
